Here Are Some Great Golf Tips

Read along as we offer up some great tips to improve your game of golf.

Many golfers try to emulate Tiger Woods. In fact, Tiger's "two-pivot swing" is considered the modern swing to model your own after. Here is a Tiger tip:

In your backswing, your upper body will turn and while turning, you want to let your left shoulder move across and to the right so that your left shoulder is above your right foot at the top of your backswing. Begin your forward swing as you always do but attempt to finish with your right shoulder above your left foot (as if you are moving slightly ahead of the shot). By doing so, you will finish your swing in a more vertical position and look like Tiger!

If you do this just right, you'll be rewarded with longer distance on your shot.

Don't try and hit the ball hard. Simply hitting the ball as hard as you can results in a tense and inefficient physical swing. You can end up achieving the opposite of what you wanted and land the ball way short. A relaxed swing and a relaxed attitude will achieve more accuracy and generally more distance.

Jack Nicklaus has often said that one his swing keys is to keep his clubhead traveling along the target line [an imaginary straight line between ball and target] as long as possible. It's a good thought, and because it helps you extend through the ball on the follow-through instead of "quitting" at impact, that is, not completing the follow-through. To keep the clubhead down the target line, imagine the target line extending toward your target and then focus on keeping the clubhead traveling along that line.

If you implement these tips and work on them, you will be certain to develop a better drive within a short period of time. Just keep on practicing and working on your improvement. It's only a matter of time before your scores begin to drop.

Turning hands counterclockwise on the shaft (weak grip), promotes a left-to-right flight of the ball (slice). Turning hands clockwise (strong grip) promotes a right-to-left flight of the ball (hook).

Golf Sounds Like a Great Idea
Too many would be golfers, particularly youngsters - head off to the local municipal course, hire a basic set of clubs and start hitting off the tee with no idea of how to hold the club, never mind striking the ball correctly. Handle Leads Hands
The body should continue to move the arms through impact and into the finish. Don't allow the clubhead to pass the handle of the club until well past impact.

Titleist Tour Report: Chrysler Championship

This week's Titleist Tour Report from the Chrysler Championship features Titleist golf ball player J.J. Henry discussing his success this year on the PGA Tour. Henry, currently ranked 27th on the Money List, had five top-10 finishes this year, including his first PGA Tour victory at the Buick Championship in July. He also earned his way onto his first United States Ryder Cup team and has qualified for all four major tournaments in 2007.

Palmer fires ceremonial shot to start Masters

Fifty years after Arnold Palmer won the Masters for the first time, he settled over the ball Thursday morning and hit a ceremonial tee shot that went so far he never saw it land.

Blame that on the thick fog that settled over Augusta National.

"Fifty years ago, it went a lot farther," Palmer said. "But the tee was a lot farther up."

It was the second straight year that Palmer, a four-time Masters champion, hit the ceremonial first tee shot.
